Pick a Card. Any Card.
And receive an illustrious prize ✨
Here is how to play this game.
Choose one of the three cards below. Let your guts do the choosing. Let instinct, attraction, resistance, and/or curiosity guide you.
Each card corresponds to a distinct creative writing strategy for prose of all kinds: conventional to hybrid.
Email me (and/or respond directly to this newsletter) and let me know your chosen card. I’ll send you the corresponding PDF/creative strategy.
Afterward, if you feel moved to do so, let me know how it goes. I always love a report-from-the-field.
I hope you enjoy this little game. There is something undeniably pleasurable about picking a card, any card. Unsurprisingly, it remains a personal favorite game. Playful, yes. But also: uncanny.
Perhaps the uncanny emerges not from the card itself, but from the sudden recognition that some deeper layer of the psyche has been waiting to encounter precisely this configuration all along.
The oracular disturbs the illusion that meaning is produced exclusively through conscious intention. Instead, it suggests that intuition, desire, memory, and symbolic life may already be organizing perception beneath the threshold of ordinary awareness. Spooky indeed. It’s almost as if the psyche already knows, and is waiting only for a structure through which its knowledge can finally surface.
I hope to hear from you—what card did you get and what writing will it lead you to?
